Personal

I’m Lauren! I’m 22 years old. I'm a graduate from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Nutritional Sciences, and I'm currently over halfway done with my Master's in Nutrition.

I have two dogs, Milo and Brady. I’m literally obsessed with them!

After working at GNC for almost 2 years, I’ve learned a lot about dietary supplements and sports nutrition.

My senior year at UConn I was the president of an on-campus running club, UConn Endurance, where we ran long distance races to raise money for charities! I’ve ran five half marathons.

While I still love running, I also found a passion for weight lifting and it has become my main focus. This has helped me to achieve my goal of becoming strong, rather than the skinny girl I've been all my life! Of course, this comes along with a healthy diet. I enjoy eating healthy and I like to modify recipes to make them healthier or just make up my own recipes from scratch.

My ultimate goal is to pursue a career in sports nutrition. I want to help motivate people to make healthy lifestyle changes and achieve their goals. I love both the nutrition and fitness aspect and that’s why I hope to incorporate both into my work.

  1. You are such an inspiration! I am actually about to start IIFYM, but I am not sure whether I should loose or bulk. I look almost exactly like you did in your "before" picture and my goal is to look like you do in your "after" picture, so when you calculated your macros on IIFYM, did you choose "fat loss" or "bulking"? Thanks so much! :)

    1. thanks! I calculated my macros so that I was in a calorie deficit because my goal at the time was to lose weight. Be careful though, you don't have to be in an extreme calorie deficit to lose weight! I lost muscle that way. using the IIFYM calculator is a good starting point, but you're most likely going to have to make adjustments, because you know your body better than the computer does! good luck :)

    2. Oh ok, the thing is that I have been following a very low calorie and carb diet for the past few months, so I want to gain lean muscle, but still lose the little extra pouch in my tummy area at the same time. Would you recommend that I do cautious bulking (this is one of IIFYM's goal options). Do you also think I should purchase the IIFYM starter kit so I know exactly what my macros are? Thanks again! :)

    3. you kind of have to choose...to gain muscle, you have to eat over your maintenance calories, and to lose weight, you have to eat in a deficit. if you've been on a low cal/carb diet for a while, then your metabolism has probably slowed down... and if you eat a significantly larger amount of calories then what you've been used to, your metabolism won't be able to handle it. you should slowly increase your calorie and carb intake so your body adjusts properly & you will be less likely to gain fat. i'm not sure what the IIFYM starter kit is...I don't follow IIFYM anymore but you can definitely work up to bulking if your goal is to gain muscle, just make sure you work up to it slowly by making small increases each week.
